DJ Jaffa in the mix

If you know about hip hop in the Diff then you know about DJ Jaffa. A valued member of the community, Jaffa has been spinning records for many years and really knows his music. Last week Jaffa took part in a one-man 24 hour live stream session in a bid to raise money for a local community centre. Diff Side caught up with DJ Jaffa to find out more about this fun fundraiser.
1.Firstly how did you manage for toilet breaks and what did you do for drinks/refreshments?!!
It was fine, my setup was in one of downstairs rooms and my daughter kept bringing me food and drinks. As for toilet breaks, long records are great lol.
2.What was the purpose of your fundraiser and how much money did you raise?
It was to help raise money for a multi sensory facility at Cathays Community centre. It’s a facility to use as a safe space for people with Autism, learning difficulties etc. During the 24 hours £1,057 was donated, this jumped up to £1,500 in the following days.
3.Did you have a game plan before you went in to the mix or did you wing it?
To be honest, I hardly ever plan a set unless it’s my radio show. I knew I wanted to start off a bit mellow so I played RnB for the first couple of hours. After that I just winged it.
4.Can you share any ups and downs you had with us during your 24 hour sesh?!
I really didn’t have any downs apart from when my wife and kids went to bed and I was like, damn I’m stuck here on my own until tomorrow. But the ups were great, like when I got messages of encouragement in the chat and getting raided on Twitch at 2am so my viewers went from about 20 to 90 and the chat was going crazy, loved it.
5.As a DJ how have you managed with the changes of the last 12 months? How did you find the transition to live streaming?
I really hate not DJing in club. I really miss the interaction with the crowd. That said streaming has definitely been a great way to relieve stress and anxiety I had from not being able to DJ out. The copyright problem on Facebook and Instagram annoyed me but as soon as I got on Twitch all that disappeared.
6.Congratulations on your phenomenal effort! Do you have any other events coming up that we can look forward too?
At the moment I’m just playing by ear.
I’m gonna get back to streaming more regularly,
& I’ve got my radio show every other week on RapTz Radio ,
Plus, I’ll be putting mixes out on my Mixcloud on a regular basis,
