Visual Artist of the Month [02]

Ral Duke

1. Yes Ral Duke! Your work is so sick - Tell us about how you got into it?

Thank you! It’s literally a case of just of falling into I guess, started messing around with pictures for myself when I put out beat tapes etc.

2. What were your inspirations when you started your artistic journey -

Did you study or are you self taught?

I think it all comes down to fine taste. In anything I do creatively I feel that I can adapt my own taste, how I like things to look, sound and feel personally. If other like minded people enjoy it too, that’s dope! I never studied anything but the culture!

3. What's your favourite art piece to date?

So hard to pick one, possibly the plugs I met cover I done, it’s really simple but so worldwide known and fits bennys aesthetic perfectly.

4. How did you get in with working alongside the big dogs like Westside Gunn & The Griselda Records Crew ?

I guess it was right place at the right time, first dealings with Westside Gunn, he hit me up after seeing some bits and wanted me to make something for a single he had. It was mad early sort of inbetween hitler 3 and flygod album, I was already a massive fan.

5. Who would you love to collab with next & why?

Kanye West, looking to make that happen.

6. What have you been up to during lock-down?

Working from home. Drinking coffee and watching The Eric Andre Show.

7. What tunes can we find on your playlist?

Alchemist. Madlib. Dilla. DOOM!

8. Favourite Welsh Artist?

STAGGA

Earl Jeffers

Selah Tapes

Don Leisure

Darkhouse Family

9. What can we expect for the future?

Some exciting clothing collabs, definitely going down that route. Some super fire records. Hopefully some new production from me when I get my hands on a new sampler!
