Our next spot goes to Bertie Bakes - Who's incredible cakes look too good to eat!

1. How did you get into baking?

I used to bake for friends and housemates years ago, but it was only a few years ago I decided to quit my office job and go back to college to study bakery and make it a full time job. I just loved spending time in the kitchen and creating delicious bakes!

2. Can you tell us how long you've been baking for?

For friends and family, I started with little bits and bobs about 8 years ago now! I then worked in cafes baking and cheffing 3 years ago, then got a job in a proper bakery a year or so after. I started my own thing full time a couple of months ago!

3. What is your favourite bake/ flavour cake?

I love anything chocolatey. My vegan oatmeal cookies might be my fave bake that I sell.

4. Where are you based - Where can we find the yummy treats?

I'm based in Roath, Cardiff, I do custom cakes and cookies from home. I Also have a stall at markets on the weekends - you can usually find me at indie superstore.

5. How have you found working through the pandemic ?

As I've only recently started its been ok- I'm fortunate I kept my old job and kept working during the pandemic so was able to save and then leave to start my own thing.

6. Have you had any strange requests?

I once had a cake order from someone who requested lots of little pink, skin coloured orchids on the cake and then the words "you'll fit right in" on it...it was some kind of crude inside joke but I enjoyed making it!

7. Do you get feedback and comments from your clients? Do they love the bakes?

Yes I'm really fortunate that people often message me afterwards saying that they loved the cake and bakes that they've ordered or tried at the markets. 8. What are your plans for the future?

To carry on baking at markets and for clients and then hopefully to open my own little bakery in Cardiff!
